End Citizens United Makes Its Reform Strategy Known

A new political action committee, which is funded by grassroots donors, is determined to be the power behind pushing large contributions out of the political arena.

 

End Citizens United, which was launched in 2015, intends to set right the crisis that resulted from The Supreme Court’s decision in the case of Citizens United vs. F.E.C. (Federal Election Commission) which changed the rules and opened the way for billionaires and special interests to spend unlimited money in American elections.

 

The PAC, which has raised $4 million, recently announced it plans to raise $35 million before the 2018 midterm elections for Congress, according to a USA Today report.

 

Tiffany Muller, End Citizens United president and executive director and former deputy political director of the Senate Democrats’ campaign committee, said 100,000 people contributed to the PAC during the first quarter and 40,000 were first time donators. She added the average donation was $12.

 

Muller commented on how democrats are enraged about President Trump’s win and are in opposition to not only his agenda but also his nominees.

 

Recently End Citizens United has appealed to its donors to support and contribute $500,000 to first time political candidate Democrat Jon Ossoff’s congressional crusade in Georgia. Ossoff raised more than $4 million for a special election to meet the terms of a vacant Republican House seat.

 

Muller also noted the PAC is taking a close look at the races it will be giving its support to in 2018 and pointed towards support for Democratic Senators Sherrod Brown of Ohio and Jon Tester of Montana.

 

The PAC has officially announced its support for US Senator Sheldon Whitehouse in his bid for re-election in 2018, referring to him as a “champion of campaign finance reform.”

 

The Senator, who disagrees with the Supreme Court/Citizens United decision, has asked for clearness and clarity in political spending and contributions. He is the author of the recently published book called “Captured: The Corporate Infiltration of American Democracy.”

 

He also challenged Supreme Court Justice Neil Gorsuch about the millions spent on his nomination.

 

In the race next year, Senator Whitehouse could run against either Republican Representative Robert Nardolillo or former state Supreme Court Justice Robert Flanders.

 

Headquartered in Washington, D. C. End Citizens United carries on as a conventional political action committee and as such does not have the ability to receive donations in excess of $5,000 from an individual donor.
